Re: Crankcase vent hose,87 5ktq

I needed to replace same hose on a '91 100 a couple of years ago. Dealer
told me that the original part had been modified; replacement price and
nature of modification I forget, except the price was (surprise,
surprise) very high.

I used two suitably cut down spare pieces of radiator hose (the wider OD
in the form of a bend) to fashion a replacement and just pushed the
smaller diameter hose into the wider, without a sleeve, and lightly
secured it with a hose clip round the join.

This has lasted about 50,000 miles with no problems.

(Would recommend that while you're at it, you remove the metal pipe
which goes to the manifold and clean it thoroughly with petrol or
similar - the mesh inside blocks with crud, and this causes pressure in
the breather system which contributes to the demise of the hose. Do this
job at each service interval to keep it clear. Presumably that's the
reason why Audi modified it.)
