Help save MONZA
Seems that the Monza race track in Italy is soon to be demolished. Here is a
letter I got back from a website looking for signatures on a petition to
save this historic place:
Michael
Thanks so much for your support.
I'm sorry but due to the amount of time this project is taking up,
articles I have to write, my "day job" & my forthcoming wedding - this
is a stereotyped reply. On one day recently I received 210 e-mails -
such is the interest the campaign has created!!
Of those 210 e-mails, over 75% came from F1 fans in the Netherlands.
This I believe is as a result of the fact that Jos (The Boss)
Verstappen, had just become the first contemporary F1 driver to give the
campaign his support - imagine therefore what sort of reaction we would
get if Schumacher or Villeneuve decided to follow Jos' example.
Despite the great response to the petition, the future is not looking
good. It is not just the banking that is at risk - the entire Autodrome
is under serious threat. For the whys & wherefores please visit the site
at http://wkweb5.cableinet.co.uk/ferrari/monza_camp.htm
On the page http://wkweb5.cableinet.co.uk/ferrari/latest.htm you'll
find an article from the Italian Newspaper - Corriere Della Sera (dated
Mon 24th August) - I'm afraid the article's in Italian - if anybody
would be willing to translate it, I'd be extremely grateful.
I will be presenting the petition during my forthcoming trip to Italy -
however I'd still appreciate more names. I'm more than a little
disappointed that of the contemporary F1 teams, only Tyrrell have
reponded. No comments from the FIA or FOCA either!
You can help by getting other race fans to send an e-mail - the more the
merrier. If you belong to any newsgroups - spread the word. In this day
and age, the media are the ones that move mountains. If we are to get
the media behind us, we need more names, more heavyweights. The fact
that we have the support of the President of the Regional Council for
Lombardy is a great help.
I'll keep you posted.. keep an eye on the web-site for further news
and once again thanks for caring.
