86 Coupe oil pressure
This weekend I've finally completed maintenance work on the coupe by
replacing the timing belt. At the same time I also replace the water pump,
crankshaft and cam shaft oil seal, other belts, unrusted and painted the
head cover and oil pan ( thanks for all those replies on oil pan removal ).
While the oil pump was out I disassembled it to inspect for scratchy
surface on the cover plate and was found none. Reassemble the pump gears
making sure in aligning inner and outer gears in the same fashion. Tested
the car, check timing, all ok.
This mourning on my way to work in major traffic (everybody is back to
school) I get the oil light light up dimly at first but as I pass 2300 rpm
the light gets more solid and then the buzzer sounds off. I quickly check
the oil pressure gauge about 3 bars (1.5 bar at idle not quite 5 bar when
at 3000 rpm, oil at operating temp), so I seem to be ok ??
In the Bently I see the "oil pressure sensor" the "oil pressure switch 0.3
bar" and the "oil pressure switch 1.8 bar " and finally the "oil pressure
control unit". So a total of three sensors.
On the car I see a sensor on the oil pump relief plug. This must be the 1.8
bar switch right ??
I see on the visible side of the engine block two sensors: one has only one
connector. The Bently says this is the pressure switch and indicates an
operating point of .15 to .45 bars, so this must be the 3 bar sown on the
electrical drawing.
The other swich has two connectors, one is for the analogue pressure gauge
indicator ( I disconnected each one to see). The other connector on the
same sensor I do not know what its for ??? and worse if you total all this
I've manage to find four connector on the car, and only three on the
electrical drawing.
My question is what make the light, light up dimly then get brighter and
brighter to finally sound off the buzzer, and where is the oil pressure
control unit, is it integrated in the buzzer located underneath the left
hand side of the dash???
Tomorrow I will have to use my trusty Hyundai Excel, 200,000 km with no
rust and still going strong !!!
Am I missing something please help !!!
