rear differential 4k Q?

does anyone out there know why Audi changed differentials on the 864kcsq, as
compared to te unit on 85 4ks q  ? what are the advantages of the newer unit?
I'm currently replacing the oil seals on my 85 unit...does anyone know where
to get a good price on these parts ..including a new vaccum servo?...were the
rear diff gear ratios all the same in the 85 units or are there optional
ratios available?.....thanks Mike
