cntr shaft-- how much play is OK?

I cannot find the info in the 4000 Benteley, let me know if there are specs
out there.

While having the car (1988 90q) lifted for a muffler job, I was checking
around the bottom and noticed that there was a noticeable play in the
center driveshaft. I could turn it by hand at lest a few degrees ( 5,
maybe). Is this normal, or , if not, can it be ajusted externally? One of
the effects of this is a noticeable clunk when the clutch is not released
smoothly. The play is not at the cross link, the entire thing can be turned
some. Is it OK to live with it or am I going to damage one of the
differentials?
