4kq coolant flush

I started flushing my coolant today, and I'm concerned that I'm not getting 
it all out. I pulled the large hose at the bottom of the radiator, and 
quite a bit came out, but what about the engine block? Is there a release 
valve? The small hose coming into the bottom of the rad comes from the 
overflow reservoir, which is empty.

What about flushing the system? Any tricks? I was planning on filling it up 
with water, getting it warm, then draining.

Any hints before tomorrow night would be welcome.
