RE: RF CV boot (clamp)
Rather than try and get the clamp on that came with the kit I used a
product that amounts to a stainless steel zip-tie. I believe I got a
set at Shmucks for about $4. Very strong and very easy to put on, just
hold a screwdriver against one end and pull about as hard as possible on
the loose end with pliers. I've used these on several CVs now with no
problems. Oh, yes do replace the axle nut, it is a self locking and a
reused one might not stay on properly, also use loctite on the splines
that fit into the hub, as recommended in Bentley. The axle nut is
torqued quite high and could be difficult to get off, I took mine to a
garage about 2 block away and had the guy loosen it with an impact
wrench (you'll likely need one, or a big pipe) and then drove home about
2.3 MPH. 10mm 12pt, got a set at Tool Town, use about 20 inches of
extensions to reach in so you can spin the ratchet outside the wheel
well. I wouldn't reccomend trying to do it with the shaft still on the
car, the circlip is quite strong and the joint will likely take some
good pounding with a hammer to get it off, (use a piece of wood or
something so the joint doesn't take quite the beating.
