Re:firewall fix, EC article??
We did the repairs on the firewall of Brendon's 4KQ, Max only provided a
cut-out flange from a wrecked car. The firewall was very torn up by the
time we got the car for the motor swap. We did it with the engine
removed, however, you can do it with the engine installed. Removing the
booster/master cylinder ia a necessity though. We welded up the existing
cracks, ground them smooth, & then welded in the new part. Try to leave
the flange as large as possible to increase the contact area with the
firewall for better strength. Keep an eye inside the car while you are
doing the welding or else a cracked firewall will be the least of your
problems. You will also need to adjust the pushrod length accordingly,
this is a contributing factor to the original failure. Have fun !
