I think this is one more case of a cracked wire from trunk to trunk
lid. Usually it breaks where the cable is bent everytime you open and
close the trunk. In your case it's even a short. You can take the wire
out of the car, cut out about 10-15 cm around the cracked area and
solder in some new wires.

Or you can get a new cable for $$$ (tree digits).
