Howard,

I went through almost the exact same conversation w/dtd about a year ago. I 
bought 16" rims for
my 90 200 tqw, from them, and they told me the ones I bought would fit. I did 
not check offsets or anything before I bought em. They did not fit - they hit 
the rear fender.

The correct offset is 45 mm. It is stamped right on your wheel as "ET 45".
35 mm WILL NOT FIT without rear fender mods. The application book for TSW 
wheels, though no others that I know of. explicitly states this.

Everybody has 35mm offset with 5x112 bolt pattern because that is what mbz 
uses. Very few people make audi specific applications.
