Stereo upgrade for Coupe GT

Just purchased a new JVC CD receiver for my '83 Coupe GT. It's one of the
few units that will actually fit into the limited available depth (about 6 -
6 1/4 in). Several issues immediately came up which may be of interest to
other Audi owners, perhaps someone can also answer my questions:

1. The rear speakers have a common negative lead, conncecting it that way
causes distortion at higher levels. The manufacturer advises running
separate negative leads to each speaker. Doing this immediately clears up
the problem. Any idea where in the car these leads are joined?

2. I have poor FM reception with the Fuba antenna, no AM reception at all
(works great with a new test antenna!). Is the white wire at the antenna
lead for a preamp? Applying +12 VDC to this lead did not improve reception,
no +12 VDC appears at this lead either. Any ideas or suggestions? Nothing
on the antenna is shown in the shop manual.

3. Any suggestions for upgrading the stock 4" speakers in the rear deck?
Bought a nice pair of 6 1/2" coaxial speakers at a closeout for a great
price, but grills are too big to fit in the rear deck, even if I cut out the
sheet metal underneath.
