88 MB Urq questions
Hi q-listers,
The construction project at work on top of regular work items has kept me
busy as a beaver for the last month or so, and I'm playing catcup with work
as well as my email correspondence. I apologize to all involved...
Anyhow, my Urq (88 MB) is getting closer to getting back on the road after
a two-month+ layoff for some major reconstruction. In the process, all
chassis and brake components are being replaced/rebuilt/improved as
necessary. The engine is receiving a new factory exchange head, new
plumbing (IC/cooling system) etc, some of it obviously purely preventative
maintenance for a 10-year old car with almost 400 000 km on the clock.
It is going to be necessary for me to do something with the turbo itself.
My choices come down to three different approaches: a)factory exchange
turbo (simple and guaranteed to work) b) rebuild the turbo (cheaper than a,
but not as mind-easing) or c) an improved turbocharger design, hybrid or
otherwise. Option C has me interested, but there is so little (read none)
past experience here in Finland (at LMS) with modifying MB's that I have to
research this one on my own. Is there a shop somewhere that has experience
with modified MB's, and can someone recommend them?
My only other option to quench my power thirst (if I cannot find any decent
solutions to go with the MB) is to go for a full RR conversion. The shop
has done them, and there is a donor vehicle available, recently built by
MTM, but sadly rear-ended soon after the 300+ horsepower car had been
finished.
I hope someone has some ideas to lead me on the right path. TIA,
