rear fog light

I recently replaced the driver's side back up light on my '84 5KS and noticed a set of wires with a plug on the end that's not connected to anything.  The plug itself is identical to the type that connects to the socket for the backup light.  The wires for this plug are two brown ones connected to one side of the plug and one white one connected to the other side.  This plug does not seem to exist on the passenger side of the trunk.  A friend seems to think that it is for a rear fog light that apparently was standard (according to him) on UK type 44 cars.  Is this the case?  Does anyone know how I would go about hooking this up in the dash, in other words is it just a question of getting a switch, hooking it up and then getting a bulb socket and plugging it in?  There's definitely room in the lense under the backup light for another bulb, so I'd like to hook this up if possible.
