Hey, that's a nice tip, and in the right category: no $ bucks and I can try it today,
on my ride home from work.
Those Bondurant instructors must be a good source of such tips. When I took the
course (long ago), one instructor pointed out to us that one doesn't need to "double
clutch" to downshift at speed - as soon as you're off the gas and hard on the brakes
(or just coasting to a stop sign/light on the street), you can simply slip the shift
lever out of the higher gear, with no resistance, and clutch once to get into the
lower gear (of course whilst rolling your heel/foot down on the accelerator if at
speed!). This has saved me at least hundreds of "de-clutchings" over the years, if
not more. (Anything to save on mechanism wear!)
Thanks!
