rust on a 5kq (87)
Anyone living in the 'Great White North' take
heed. Seems over the summer I developed a leak in
a rear diff seal, and I had a good opportunity to
check out the 'back end.' Woeful sight. The tops
look good but the bottoms don't, galvanized or
not. I won't go into it, but take a peek and do
what you can.
On with the good, I got the diff filler plug out!
Put an extension on the 17mm driver to run out
along the half shaft to the right, put a breaker
bar on and lying on my back gave it the ol' heave
ho! Lifted me right off the ground (190 lbs.)
Snap! Nothing broke! Plug broke free! TY! The
drain plug was anticlimactic.
Bad part, got about a quarter litre of oil out.
Good part, no metal. Put in another litre and a
half (don't know fer sure...I'm not counting at
this point).
Take it out for a 'drive,' no change...but now I
have a 4431! OK. Onto the next one.
Sorry about the rant, but the past few hours ain't
been fun.
