Looking at A4's + have questionsq

Hi, I'm new to this list.  Right now I have two Ford Taurus SHO's with 5
speeds.  I like them a lot but I'm going to consolidate to one car and I was
thinking about buying a new-er A4.  I drove my bosses A4 with a 5spd and 172hp
V6 (its a 97 in auburn red I think).  It didn't have the power of the sho, but
cornering and traction were great, and I LOVE the looks and interior of the
car.  I love the color, its kind of like a metallic salmon color.  Do they
still make it in that color?  
Anyways I know the new ones start at around 28 or so.  I don't know if I
should buy the 4 cyl turbo and upgrade it or just buy the 6.  I hear the new 6
has 190 HP.  I want a 5 speed, definitely.  I want to buy a used one probably
a 97.  I was just wondering if anyone can help me out and tell me some things
I should know first, and what I can expect to be paying for a 97 in decent
shape with decent mileage.
