The afterrun fan helps keep the wires, belts, hoses, connectors,
etc. under the hood from cooking with built-up heat when you park.
It is fairly important.

I would think that moving it shouldn't make it no longer sense
temperatures, since the engine bay is fairly small and confined.
Try jumpering the wires (right after the car is shut off), and
see if the fan comes on. It could be a bad connection, etc.
