great Q-weekend
I just wanted to say what a great weekend I had. I drove down to DC to see a
band. On the way back up to Albany, I stopped in Philly to visit Igor.
Stopping at Igor's only added about 30 minutes driving time on the way back.
I finally had a chance to check out where Igor performs his magic. Although
the garage/basement space is tight at his place, I think he's using the
space very well. Lots of Audi pictures on the walls, some I had never seen
before. I was VERY impressed with the tools, some of which were homemade
copies of VAG versions.
We performed a quick lobotomy on my 200q (for comparison). Then the moment
came for me to pop my hood. Naturally, I did so with some hesitancy since my
200q has seen much better if not cleaner days. We were after the
"hot-running" condition gauge reading problem I was having. Igor was kind
enough to show me how to create a test procedure for the gauge and sending
unit with only a potentiometer. He was good enough to sell me a boost gauge
and help me with the installation as well. He was also pointed out some of
the ways I could improve my 200q (shield battery terminal, install lighting
relays for Euros, steam clean)....
SO...I had a very productive and fun time. Seeing Igor's car next to mine is
strangely like looking back in time. I remember when my 200q had that low
mileage on her...It was a great part of my weekend away from the grindstone,
and a super educational one. I could spend a couple hours looking at the
many ways Igor has improved his 200q.
Igor, you get a public GOLD STAR for hospitality.
P.S.
1. I'd prefer a "running a little hot" glowing button on my dash (like in
"Airplane the movie".) then a gauge, just for fun.
2. Expect pictures from AF98 as well as this weekend's jaunt to be up on a
site within the next few weeks. I have to sneek into the darkroom and
develop something like 14 rolls of film now.
