90 Speedometer change - help wanted

Has any one removed a speedo from a 80/90 Audi.  In particular a 1991 Coupe
but I think all the 80/90's are the same, yes?
I need to know how difficult this procedure is.  I can handle most
mechanical endeavors but I need to do this "on the road".  
Basically I intend to buy a Canadian car but the speedo must be changed to
read mph before I can bring it to the US.  So, I need to take the tools
required and do it at the border where the seller is going to meet me.
Anyone have any experience with this?
