Re: Climate control fault code
Chris;
I've just BTDT on my '91 200q.
The temp flap motor is located under a plastic cover on the left hand
side of the heater box. On my '91 200q the wiper drive must be removed to
access the motor.
Set your AC head to "LO" and check that the flaps move to the cold
position ( you can see the flap levers move on the right hand side of the
box.
Set your AC head to "HI" and check to see that the flaps move all the
way to the hot position. Once the flaps have stopped moving, activate the
diagnostic mode on the AC head (Push the "outside temp" button and the "off"
button simultaneously). Step through the channels to channel 08 and push the
"outside temp" button again. This will display the motor potentiometer
reading which should be between 9 -12 or 20-25 - the exact range depends on
the build date of your car.
If the pot reading is out of range, it can be set by an adjusting screw
on the motor.
Before adjusting the pot, clean the electrical connector to the motor
and retest. Cleaning the connections and treating them with Stabilant 22
solved the problem on my car.
If cleaning the connector and adjusting the pot don't solve the problem,
you may need a new motor, but it may be possible to take the motor apart and
clean the internal potentiometer.
