I might try that. Or yet more rigging with hose-clamps, which
this car seems to have a lot of :). (E.g. the speedo cable is
attached to the cluster with 2 clamps connected by a strong
loop of wire, as the bayonet fitting broke off the cable...)

Well, it appears that at .032", they're within
the .028"+.004" spec.
After taking the heat shield off, the spark has nowhere to go
but the plug, and the car runs beautifully.
(but for the exaust racket - I still have to go above 4.5k RPMs
to hear the engine, but it sounds good again now.)
