According to the ur-Q repair manual for the RR 20V Turbo engine, it uses a
similar diagnostic procedure with the VAG1551 and VAG1552 scan tool as the
US version 3B 20V Turbo engine. The CarComp software (VDS-Pro) works with
the 3B, so there should be no problem using it with the RR. Some of the
modified 3B ECU's I have looked at, had the RR ECU part number embedded in
the EPROM code 857-907-404 B, so it looks like the tuners used this RR code
as the starting point for mods for the 3B engines used in the US. John
Gable at CarComp worked with NW qlist member, Alex Neckas to get his
emulation software to work correctly with the 3B ECU.
The VAG1551 or emulator software in addition to reading and clearing fault
codes, also allows you to look at the 10 different block values (Decimal
values) for more detail on what the ECU/engine is thinking and doing.
Things like engine temperature, engine load (MAP), engine speed, operating
range of idling speed stabilization, idle speed zero point, idle speed
curve control, lambda control (O2 sensor) mixture reading, Lambda
adaptation (mixture adaptation) and engine timing. You can also read out
these values while you are driving the car using the VAG1551/2 or the
emulation software. I believe the emulation software also allows graphing
of this data taken from the test drive. Alex may be able to add some
additional details as he has used this software on his 3B conversion in his
4000Q.
You should also be able to use an LED to blink out the fault codes with the
RR engine and do the output tests on the fuel injectors and solenoids, the
procedure for the 3B engine is located on my web site, go to

The 1989-90 200TQ and 1989-91 200 Turbo FWD with the late MC engine with
dual knock sensors, Mac14 ECU, does allow fault code reading, output tests
and code clearing when used with the actual VAG1551 or VAG1552 scan tool.
The scan tool will also read 8 block values (0-7) from the Mac14 but I
have never found any official Audi documentation that mentions this, nor
any Audi tech that was aware of this capability. With the engine idling or
with the ignition key on, you can read the manifold pressure (MAP) values,
engine coolant temp and air temp values, O2 sensor lambda reading, but I
have not found out what the other channels readings are for at this time.
If you rev the engine above ~2000 RPM, the diagnostic session will be ended.
I have not been able to get the CarComp emulation software to work on this
Mac14 ECU, John Gable indicated that he could take a look at this problem,
but indicated that it could be a windows problem (time out expired) as the
baud rate may be extremely slow to communicate with this ECU. I have not
"yet" followed up with John to send him a Mac14 ECU for testing.
