quick and dirty fix for 5kq? CC (update)

Seems the heater hose valve doesn't work.  I have
the 'actuator' pushed up to the top and stopped
with a plug.  At operating temp I have pressure on
the engine side of the hose but none on the heater
side.  Hose gets warm as does return hose.
Nothing to write home about.  Is there anything
else to restrict the system?  I'm going to put a
piece of pipe in there.  I know this is trivial
but it's dark and I want to get this thing done
with for a bit and do my business tomorrow with a
little heat in the cabin.  It's about 6 degrees C
here now.  Please help?
