CV Boot replacement
Nathan, I'm not familiar with the V8 CV boots, but I can't remember an
Audi since the inboard brake 100 LS that took more than an hour to do
BOTH boots on one drive axle. Maybe an hour and a quarter. At my shop
rate, that would be $64-80, leaving a HUGE margin for markup on the boot
(s). I'd suggest someone that's less interested in paying the rent
entirely off your car. I wouldn't put the boot off, it's a bad trade,
small dollars for potentially big dollars.
There are specialized high quality brake hydraulic component rebuilders
advertising in Hemmings that will overhaul your calipers for what most
would consider a reasonable price, and warranty them for an extended
period. A company called Stainless Steel Brake comes to mind, we used
them for some 308 calipers (list about $1400 each). I think the bill was
4 or 5 hundred for the pair.
Hope this helps, John
