I did the soup-to-nuts rebuild.  Springs, seats, lifters, and whatever else I
could replace.  Also, the head was shaved a *tad* and cleaned up a bit at the
inlet and outlet ports.
The result?  Minimal hp increase, nice and quiet, perhaps a bit more throttle
response.  Actually, the real reason I delved into the project was for the
intermittant lifter noise, and what I would later realize was a vacuum pump
plunger banging around.  The lifters are much better (no embarrassment at the
pedestrian crosswalk), and the intake manifold only makes leaky noises every
other month... :)

I did the labor myself, 'cept for the actual headwork.  All told, spent about
$250 and a couple weekday nights.  Not bad at all.  I feel much better about
it, and piece of mind is worth a lot for the car..
