Yup. The very first Type 44s didn't - they had two hoses and a splitter
like the one used in the ur-quattro until 1987. One circuit through
the pump - high pressure oil fed to the regulator under the bomb, and
excess fluid led off to run the power steering. This system uses Dexron
or compatible ATF and works at around 110-120 bar.
Most Type 44s, I believe, and all Type 85s after September 1987 use the
tandem pump system. This operates at around 140 bar and needs mineral
oil - I don't think it matters whether dino or synthetic.
I believe the "NP" in the G 002 000 NP part number stands for 'neue Pumpe'
or new pump. It has a _green_ cap and is also marked "Not for use in
automatic transmissions".
Is there any such marking on either 'red cap' or 'green cap' Pentosin?
