I have had several instances of people turning up at the door here with
MB ur-quattros, very disappointed with the performance and wondering
what would be the best tuning option. They seem to come with their
minds half made up about this or that chip or spring.
On most occasions, the disappointment is because there's something
wrong with the car - most often the WOT switch. Once this is fixed,
the disappointment recedes for a while and the tuning ideas return
after half a year or so.
Some have come here having already been to the tuners, and having got
very little for their money. The reason is the same as the above -
there's something fundamental wrong. A TAP chip will do very little
good to a car with a defective WOT switch, and I suspect a lot of the
disappointment expressed is for this reason.
