New for '99/quality problems/parts back-order hell
Stopped by my Audi dealer today to have the air screen intake retaining
ring recall do-dah done on my '98.5 A4QM Avant (took 20 minutes) and
ascertained the following:
(1.) Sales manager just back from a dealer mtg in Atlanta says that in
addition to the TT 1.8 FWD and S4 sedan (no Avant), the following will
be new in the U.S. for '99: A6 V-8 (sedan, no Avant, Tip only), A6 V-6
biturbo (sedan and Avant, Tip and possibly 5-speed). Usual disclaimers.
(2.) Lotsa niggling quality problems with the new A6s, mostly little
spit like cup holder failure.
(3.) Audi parts back-order hell is alive and well. Eg.: Service manager
has waited six weeks for an A4 alternator; meanwhile customer's car
gathers dust on back lot.
FYI, dealer has had a baby puke yellow 2.8QM Avant on his lot for
weeks. There is a $1,500 hidden dealer incentive on A4 Avants at the
moment that we're not spozed to know about. Might be an opportunity to
get a good deal. Winner Porsche Audi, Newark, DE, 302-292-8250. Steve
St. Clair is sales manager. Usual disclaimers.
