4kq odometer issues

OK,  so far I've been told by many listers that the solution to my non 
functioning odometer lies within the instrument pod. I've gotten the face 
off and am now able to look at all the digits and gears. As far as I can 
tell, everything looks good. It appears that there's a small white gear 
that turns the trip odometer, which in turn turns the main odometer for 
each mile passed. Any ideas why mine isn't turning? It turns fine by hand, 
but I can't see how it's supposed to be turned Maybe by the rod going 
through it?).

I seem to recall people saying there was a particular gear which usually 
broke, requiring a little dab of crazy glue. Which gear is this?
