I switched over to Mobil 1 in my 87.5 CGT 2.3 at 67K and have experienced
no ill effects.  I still change the oil every 3 to 3.5k miles and use Audi
filters (bought 8 at a time from Carlsen).  It seems to burn about .5 qt
in the first 1000 miles, then none until the next change (sounds crazy,
but it's true).  I assume it burns cuz it ain't leakin'.  Here in Montana,
with typically cold winters, I use 15-50 in summer and 10-30 in winter.

As for the synth blends, I have a pal that simply mixes Mobil 1 10-30 with
Mobil conventional 10-30 in his diesel Chevy Blazer.  The Mobil 1 bottles
state 'fully compatible with all conventional oils'.  Thus he know what
percentage is synthetic, and pays about the same as the synth blends.
