The most used I5 engine OEM oil filter part 056 115 561 and several
letter variants are xrefed to FRAM PH4681, which according to Fram's
catalog has an anti-drain valve, but NO bypass valve. The other two
Frams for Audi gas engine apps. that I've found so far (their catalog is
xrefed by Fram numbers, not cars!) have both valves.

Unless Audi has an engine oiling system design that I'm not aware of (a
distinct possibility) you need an antidrain back valve _only_ if you
mount the filter w/the filter opening at an angle that would allow
gravity to drain the filter. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Your comment is one reason why I'm gonna buy and dissect Fram and a
couple of other brands that are considered "suspect". While I'm not
from Missouri, I still believe in "show me".
