busted block bits

Hey,

I worked a bit on the wrecked CGT today, got alot
of
the stuff out of the way and out of the engine
compartment.

One thing I noticed is that when the A/C
compressor
busted off, it took two of the little "ears" that
the
heavy duty bracket bolts to with it. In each
spot,
there is half of the threaded hole that the bolts
went into. Can you picture what I'm saying? The
outside parts of the threaded holes are gone. I
did
not get the bracket, the little ears that broke,
or
the compressor back from the impound yard (nor did
I get the front bumper cover, but it wasn't in
such
good shape anyway).

Is it possible (how probable and expensive) to
weld
some more metal back onto that area, and drill and
tap some new holes for the bracket? Would it be
as
strong as original, or strong enough?

I have a 220v MIG welder, but the mechanic where I
store the car said it would have to be welded with
"nickel rod". This is something I'll likely have
done by a shop, since I have no 220 or really any
kind of a workshop.

Anyone got any ideas on this one? I've got some
time
before next summer, but by next summer I _will_ be
needing air conditioning in this AZ heat.

Looks like I can get the motor pulled next
weekend.
Just need to pull the axles off, undo one last
downpipe bolt, and disconnect the shifter. Then I
can bring the motor home, along with the front
suspension pieces.

It's great that the weather is getting nice
finally.

Later,

Ken
