4ks...help my car idle!

Okay, now I'm confused. I go out to do something for my car ('84 4000 S, 5
speed) and it thanks me by taking a nap. An assistant and I were changing
the air filter. I was lifting the top part of the airbox/fuel assembly, the
assistant sliding out/in the air filter. When finished with this, I took a
pair of vise-grips and gave a little wake up tap to what I guess is a cold
start injector. (It's the big, fat-looking injector-looking thing hooked
into the top side of the intake manifold.) Not a very hard tap at all, just
enough to communicate that I am displeased with the sometimes hard starting.
Oh, and one other thing I did was replace the blown-for-a-month radio,
domelight, trunk light, etc. fuse.

Now, I go to start the car later and it starts up fine, and it dies fine
too. It'll start up great but I have to press in the gas to keep it
running. If it gets down near idle speed it'll die. If I keep it above
1500 rpm she runs like a champ. Taking out the newly replaced fuse did
nothing to remedy the problem. Did I cause a problem with my little wake up
call to the injector thing? Are these cars finicky about what kind of air
filter you put in 'em? Somebody help! The car is undriveable as is.

Graciously waiting for some more expert info,
Brian
