Re: type 44 brake question - long answer

Hi!

Me again. I've done some shopping around during lunch
hour today. I went to a brake service centre and asked
for new Ate rotors for the 88-91 Audi Turbo (200 FWD).
The car is not listed, but there is a listing for the
1991/2 onward Audi Turbo. There is also no specific listing
in the Alfa brake catalogue (they make discs and are
pretty big here). I then had to call the Ate office in
Johannesburg to find out if they have discs for the car.
Once again, the only Audi 500 Turbo (it is called the
500 here, 200 in Eu/States, 5k in the States) listed
is from 1991/2 onwards. Why no 1988-1991 I wouldn't know,
but since there was really only one 500 Turbo model in
this country I reckon this is the right machine.

I got part numbers from Ate for the discs:

   front: 125.0105 288mm x 25mm
   rear : 110.0154 245mm x 10mm

Can anyone verify these Ate parts for the 1988-1991 200
front-wheel drive car?

Just got off the phone with 2 local distributors I was
referred to by Ate. They all want to sell me discs for
the 100. I have no idea if that 1992 onwards things is
a typo for the Audi 500 Turbo. None of the distributors
work by the Ate part number. Audi agents want $100 for
each disc. Help. Ate also do not sell direct to public.
Now what? Would really appreciate help on Ate part
numbers for the 1988-1991 200.

Also, agents want $850 for brake MC. CBS brake centre
are selling MC for a Audi 100 1988-1991 at $25, but I'm
not sure if it is the complete thing. Diameter is only
20.86mm, Audi agents indicated a diameter of 22mm to 25mm.
Can anyone source a MC in the States with these diameters
for me? Aftermarket of course.

The Turbo is listed against the 500SE and 500SEL (the 100
with the first A6 body) from 1992 onwards. The Turbo only
sold up to 1992 here. Go figure. Are the brakes the same
for the type-44 200 1988-1991 and the Audi 100 with the
2.8 V6 of 1991?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Regards,
Gerard.
