This is now OBSOLETE information, with ABS an' all.
I went through an Audi training course in about 1981, and one of the
subjects was emergency braking. I still use what they taught me - get
the brakes on as early and as hard as you can, and then look around.
One of the details concerned the 80Q (4000Q). The implementation at
the time used two pull toggles - they taught a movement using the
index and middle fingers of the right hand, striking down hard to
pull on both differential locks while the hand was generally on the
way to knock the car out of gear and then 'dwell' by the handbrake.
