No, I'm NOT trying to revive the thread....
But I did finally get around to reading the Sept. 28 issue of AutoWeek. They
covered the Audi TT in some detail. This paragraph caught my attention:
"The TT's transverse layout required adjustments to the quattro all-wheel-
drive system. In place of Audi's familiar Torsen mechanical differential is a
more compact, electronically controlled unit. A wet clutch in the
differential varies torque front to rear according to hydraulic pressure
changes created by slipping wheels. Audi claims that if the new diff senses
reduced traction front or rear, it reacts before the slipping axle turns
another 45 degrees. Further, the system allows power bias or nearly 100
percent to either pair of wheels, compared to 65 percent with the Torsen
diff."
45 degrees seems like quick reaction. That impressed me.
I have no further comments to make for fear of creating another Hydra.
Later.
