Power window blues

The audi gods have struck again!

Yesterday while lowering the drivers window of my 86 5ks, a sound was
emitted that sounded like my wifes Oster blender
crushing ice. The window stopped half way down. I tried to raise it, and
it slowly inched up a couple of inches and stopped.
After I got home, I immediately took off the inner door assembly to view
the carnage.
There is a small wire cable that runs from the power window motor
(regulator?) over a nylon pulley which was all tangled up and had come off
the pulley.
The regulator has two cables coming from it that drive this cable.

Since a downpour was imminent, my primary objective was to get the damn
window back up so that I could at least drive the
car to work the next day.

I thought that maybe all I had to do was to get the cable back onto the
pulley. I got the cable back on which required the dexterity of a brain
surgeon and thought that I had the problem licked. Fat chance. I hooked
the switch assembly back up to the wiring harness to watch the assembly
operate. The whole regulator assembly was twisting around while running and
the cables were binding up real bad.
So much for plan "A:". I figure that this cable and or regulator assembly
is toast, so I clipped the cables off, pushed the window back up and
clamped a small pair of vise grips on the track to hold the window up.

My question is this. Do I have to replace the entire regulator assembly or
can I just get new cable assembly.
Also, I noticed that the inner door section which includes the inner frame,
etc. appears to be removable from the outer door section. Is this true?
You may be saying........."Get a Bentley you idiot!", Well, I may do that
when I have a spare $120, however, in the mean time, I'm appealing to the
list for some help.
 Anyone BTDT?

No more drive through Burger Kings for me until I fix this.
