parts car

I've noticed that many listers have parts cars to scavange.  This sounds
like a great idea for saving money on many
of those nagging dealer only items as well as other big ticket items.
Here's my questions.  What would fellow listers consider to be a
"reasonable" price for a plain 5k series parts car?
(non quattro, non turbo)
I recently found a guy with a wrecked 84 5k.  The left front is mashed
which took out the radiator, AC condenser etc.
The tranny has been pulled to fix an 86 that is also for sale.
He claims the engine is good.  He is looking for $300 to $400 bucks for the
car which I consider to be way to high.

Will most of the stuff from this 84 fit my 86 5ks?

Any opinions would be appreciated.
