Bomb testing question

Having gone through four bombs in two years, I'm ready to try the recharge
method. Best price I've found for a bomb is $349+tax+greengold=~$430Cdn.
Yoiks!
However, if the problem is the checkvalve, of course, a recharge won't do a
darn thing.
So, without a 3000 psi gauge, is it possible to test the bomb pressure (min
430 lbs, according to Mr. Bentley) and/or the check valve (hold 1957 psi
from dropping below 1885psi for 5 minutes)?
