Re: Bomb testing question
A while back I was looking into a pump/bomb/etc problem and started
putting together an inexpensive pressure tester....
I went to a local hyraulics store (the kind that fixes tractor and earth
moving equipment hydraulics). They had a gauge that goes to 3000psi
(and shows BAR too) for $22; an off the shelf item. They were happy to
make up hoses that fit it, but they did not know about the metric banjo
fittings. I picked up a used hose from the system at a junk yard and
was going to bring it to the shop to add a std fitting to one end to go
to the gauge, but before I did that the diagnosis of a bad pump came
thru from this list, so I never got to needing the gauge.
It seems that for < $40 one should be able to pick up all the parts one
needs. Finding the banjo fittings was the hardest part though. No Audi
dealer I spoke with was willing or able to sell me the banjo fittings
and washers specific to the test gauge.
Given the presures involved, I'd let a shop that makes up these hoses
make one for you. Barbed fittings with hose clamps might work, but
given the pressures, and the mess and damage to a working pump that a
leak might cause...
