Distributor Wiring
I recently picked up a 5KTQ engine from a junk yard that was going out
of business... One of the parts that I was hoping to use was the
ignition distributor (the one on my car has fairly loose bushings on the
shaft). Unfortunately when the yard pulled the engine, they
popped/broke the electrical connector off the distributor.
I had given up using this distributor, even got the yard to reduce their
price because the dist was unusable...
When I got home and started taking things apart, I found the plastic
part of the dist's electrical connector hidden in the junk on the
engine. The connector is in great shape, and all the wires came cleanly
out of the connector with metal ends still attached. It looks like all
I need to do is put the electrical ends back into the connector and put
the connector back into the dist body. But a few questions first:
1. Anyone out there know the order of these wires in the connector
(since this is not a servicable part, Bentley does not seem to cover
that). I would like to know for sure which order the colored wires go.
2. Anyone know any sure-fire tests that I can run on the dist to see if
it's really OK?
3. Given that it got popped off, I thought I should probably use some
sort of glue on the elect connector when I put it back on the dist body.
Any suggestions for what to use (silicon caulk, super glue, etc).
TIA
Steve
