RE: found a '86 4k quattro for sale.

Got this '86 4kq checked out by a mechanic today. To recap, it is a '86 4000
Quattro, Red, 170k. Known problems: one window didn't work, a little bit of
rust, one small dent in front fender, odometer doesn't work (170k is my
estimate, something with the exhaust has come loose. Interior is fine,
over-all body and paint condition is fine (with the exception of the dent
and small rust).

Asking price: $2100

Here is the mechanics list of problems (with their price):

Tailpipe muffler - $280
Need to remount the cat. - $10
Strut mounts - $120
Rt outer boot - $75
Rear control arm bushing - $140
Tune up - $110
All belts, inc. timing belt - $170 (they say these are OK for now, but
should be replaced soon)
Radiator leaks - $380
Radiator res. bottle leaks - $54
Ground strap + clamp - $25

Total - $1364 (I'm not sure if this is for parts only or if labor is
included)

Is this a definate "pass" or does it have potenial? I have about $2500 to
spend on a good used car. Maybe $3000 if I decide to use some money from my
savings, but nothing more than that. $1800 is the most I would pay for this.

Unfortunaly, I need to purchase a used car this week (actually by tomorrow
or Thursday) so I don't really have the luxury of doing a lot of shopping
around. I'm going to look at a '87 5000 quattro (turbo I believe) this
afternoon, then maybe a couple other cars tonight.

Any guidance would be greatly apprieciated.
