Re: Audi+rotary engines!
Since there seems to be some interest in this thread I'll add my
dos centavos. The finest pre-Audi 4N car I ever owned was a
Mazda RX2. Aside from having to change three or four sets
of points, 5 condensors, leading and trailing plugs, every
couple of months, it was a hell of a car. The body was a
very hefty design, with battleship steel compared to todays
cars, and I can still remember the rubber band like "power
curve". It don't recall the mileage, but it used to get 50 miles
to the quart of oil, it would burn oil so predictably (problems
with ring sealing on the early engines) I rigged up a Mercedes
manual windshield washer pump to "automatically" top off
the crankcase every 50 miles. Came in handy in the inclement
NE weather.
On an Audi note, I can only speculate what the result of a
Wankel attached to a Quattro drivetrain would have been
like. The RX2 would never get stuck in winter, even when
I was running on college student semi baloney skins. Everyone
who ever borrowed the car was also amazed at how well
it tracked in snow, especially uphill. Anyone ever heard
of a Wankel mated to a Quattro system?
Memory lane mode off....
