I went out tonight to put on a new Bosch distributor rotor and cap,
after finding that the old rotor had about disintegrated. (I
investigated it because of the screeching noise the distributor seemed
to be making.) In removal of the old one, which was really stuck on the
shaft, it broke apart the rest of the way. 

Fine, I thought, until I realized that the new rotor wasn't the same. It
is made for a much smaller shaft diameter (its ID is ~9.5mm, while the
old one is 14mm) and thus does me no good. It's a Bosch 04170 rotor,
also with p/n 1 234 332 350. I got it from a local auto store that
carries Bosch parts.

Any idea what's wrong here? I'll see what the store says tomorrow
morning. And it looks like I won't find out what's the cause of the
screeching for sure just yet. Thanks.
