I have 2 4kq's and work on 3 others and have no rust on any of them.  Sounds 
like a Minnesota thing. 


3.  No lifter noise on start up, but owner says that at about 3k miles,
noise starts and it's time to change oil.  Says he uses synthetic all the
time.  Must be some kind of built in Audi timer. ;)

If it is the lifters.  It could be the famous vacuum pump.  But if it is the 
lifters you can replace them for little money.  Or just put up with it.


6.  What kind of miileage do you get??  Owner claims about 20mpg to 22 mpg.


You should get between 18-25 depending on your right foot and how well the car 
is tuned.
