New Lister - Whizzing Noise

Just wanted to say hello to all you Quattro's out there.  I am resubsribing
to the list after a 1 year hiatus.

I have a question regarding a whizzing noise coming from the rear of my
1990 80Q (145k miles).  I think it is from the fuel pump.  How do I test it
to see if I need this replaced?  I remember reading that this is a typical
sound the Bosch fuel pump makes.  Is this true?  Should I be worried?
