re Re: Winter tires

Dan Simoes <dans@ans.net> propounded:

The Blizzaks and Yokos have a very soft "gummy bear"
type rubber. That wears out quickly. It also helps
the tires handle like crap (soft rubber=soft sidewall).
The Graspics have a soft tread but the rest of the
tire is much stiffer than the other brands.

Au contraire, mon ami. The Yokos have nylon strands in the rubber (which in
this case is microcellular foam). Their wear, considering my driving style,
is very good for a winter tire. And they stick like glue. While they are
less stable (tread block wise) than my Bridgestone RE-71s, for example, the
71s become very hard in the winter and lose performance if operated really
cold. I won't claim the Yokos are the best, even if CR does, (in fact
especially if CR does), but I think they are very good.
