no a/c in '88 90Q

i have not ever sent a question to the list, but after three weeks of taking
the car back, i think it's time.  the a/c worked before i got the radiator
replaced and after until i took it back in b/c they forgot to rehook up the
fan.  now the a/c light comes on and the fan kicks in, but the compressor
never connects.  i assume hooking up the fan did something but what? is it a
2 speed fan, b/c when it kicks on normally it looks like it runs faster now
then before.  any help appreciated.
