Last night, I represented all list members at John Robinson's 50th
birthday party.

(John is the Treasurer of the UK Audi quattro Owners Club.)

You'll be glad to know your representative had a great time on your
behalf. The quattro also came in handy to retrieve a Shogun (heh!)
from a nearby ditch. John's birthday present was practical - ten feet
of 3.5mm vacuum hose. A damn good evening. The discoteque was terrific,
capped off by the guy who ran it climbing into a set of British Gas
overalls and driving off in a British Gas van - apparently the police
don't interfere with artisans going about their business, no matter
how late it is. I wonder if a set of British Telecom decals on the
ur-quattro would do any good?

And yes - we stayed up late enough to watch the Grand Prix at 03:40.
There are few enough Schumacher fans in England - the man is good,
perhaps, but no sportsman. His charge was admired until the moment he
fetched up behind Damon Hill - and then the cheers rent the air. I
could imagine Damon radioing the pits with a message for the Ferrari
pits: "IT'S PAYBACK TIME!!!"

Damon wanted the point for Jordan, and did indeed help them to fourth
in the constructors' championship. But I think he probably thought
about what he might do if Michael had pulled alongside ...
