Re: Why dealers get a bad rap.

In a message dated 98-10-31 14:04:18 EST, you write:

<< With Audi though, the attitude of the local dealers has
been a mirror of the attitude I have received from AoA on the several
instances I
have contacted it: Arrogant and largely incompetent.. >>

Ditto!!! In the last year or so I,ve been involved with a few new car sales as
well. Some of my customers just don't want to go to the local dealer for the
same reasons as have been discuued on this thread. I've found that there arte
two types of sales approaches being implemented today a dealer, new or used.
The slam dunk approach, where you're met a the door by a greeter who decides
which car you should have, gets financial info to run thru the credit dept
while you're on your test drive. then when you get back you have a go round
with the "closer" bascked up by the sales manageror finance guy. All very
tedious to me, but then I realise that some people need to be led.
Most of us consider ourselves intelligent enough to make descisions of this
magnitude with out all the fanfare of the dealership "waltz" and it is to this
type of customer that I, as the seller, am most comfortable with.
And old friend of mine's dad used to say "Take the best service in town and
buy whatever kind of car goes with it." Good words no doubt uttered before the
advent of the Audi Quattro, but i still think the service factor is the key to
repeat business.
